The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said Thursday that global food prices rose for the eleventh consecutive month in April, reaching their highest levels since May 2014, as sugar led a rise in all major indices.
The FAO Food Price Index, which measures monthly changes for a basket of grains, oilseeds, dairy products, meat and sugar, scored 120.9 points on average last month, compared to a revised reading of 118.9 in March.
The previous reading for March was 118.5.
The Rome-based organization said in a statement that the new forecasts indicate growth in the production of both wheat and corn globally in the coming season.
