Covering food during fasting hours is optional for restaurants in Dubai

The Dubai Department of Economic Development issued a circular in which restaurants that serve food during the fasting hours of Ramadan have chosen to cover it or remove curtains while serving food.

This came in a statement by the department, which stated that the circular "gives restaurant administrations the option to cover restaurants or remove curtains while serving food to customers during fasting hours."

The statement added that this amendment "comes to replace the circular in place for years, which required restaurants and establishments to install curtains or cover facades as a condition for serving food during fasting periods in Ramadan."

The department added that "the circular will come into effect from the first day of the holy month of Ramadan without prior permission from the department, so that this procedure is in line with the usual practices in force in this regard in restaurants in Dubai."
