A number of yameesh and spice dealers in the local market confirmed that the import bill of Yamish Ramadan declined during the current year by about 30%, compared to last year's imports.
Muhammad al-Sheikh, secretary of the perfume division of the Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, said in exclusive statements to "Al-Mal" newspaper, that the total value of Yamish Ramadan's imports during the current year amounted to nearly 35 million dollars, while last year it recorded 50 million dollars.
The Sheikh added that this decline comes for several reasons, including the continuing global crisis of the Corona virus, which led to a decline in freight movement between countries, and merchants' fear of importing large quantities of goods, with indications that consumers did not increase their demand to buy.
The Sheikh pointed out that the merchants ’fears were justified, and this appeared during the current week, represented by the weak demand for buying so far.
