Dentist warns of negative consequences of wearing face masks

Russian dentist, Gennady Shargorodsky stated that wearing face masks negatively affects the health of teeth and gums.

Speaking to the Russian "Zvezda" ("The Star") channel, he said that covering the mouth and nose during long hours limits the flow of moisture and may cause dry mouth, which helps in the development of tooth decay and gum disease.

He added: "Therefore, wearing them (masks) is necessary, but breaks must be taken in one way or another so that all these pathological microorganisms can exit the mouth."

The doctor also indicated that wearing face masks may provoke the emergence of an unpleasant odor from the mouth, and he recommended washing teeth often and rinsing the mouth with water during the epidemic.
