Egyptian Member of Parliament, Dalia Youssef, submitted a request to the Prime Minister and Minister of Supply to cancel the decision to reduce the weight of a loaf of bread.
Youssef said in a statement, that the decision comes "in clear violation of presidential directives on not harming the poor, especially since the loaf of bread depends on more than half of the people."
She pointed out that "reducing the weight of a loaf of bread crudely ignored the official indicators and statistics of the Central Agency for Mobilization and Statistics, in which it announced the high rate of the poor, not to mention the economic and social impacts of the Corona pandemic."
Yousef called for the necessity to "reconsider the decision, and to find another mechanism to meet the demands of the bakery owners, without any prejudice to the loaf of bread, whether in terms of its weight or price or the number allocated to each citizen per day."
