United Nations: The World Food Program will send 50 thousand tons of wheat flour to Lebanon

A report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released on Tuesday said the World Food Program would send 50,000 tons of wheat flour to Lebanon to stabilize the country's supplies.

On Friday, a Reuters report revealed that the Lebanese government does not have a strategic stockpile of grain, and that the explosion last Tuesday in the Beirut port destroyed all the private stocks in the only major grain silo in the country.

The report said that the food program would send the flour shipment "to boost national supplies and ensure that there is no shortage of food in the country."

It is estimated that the reserves of flour (flour) in Lebanon suffice the needs of the market for a period of six weeks.

"The first shipment of 17,500 tons is scheduled to arrive in Beirut within ten days to supply the bakeries for a month," he added.
