For diabetics .. Tips for eating holiday cakes without complications

A nutritionist has provided a set of tips for diabetics to eat holiday cakes in a safe way.

Sayed Hammad, a nutrition consultant at the National Institute of Nutrition in Cairo, said that the first advice regarding Eid sweets is to check with the specialist doctor before eating it, according to the Masrawy website.

Hammad warned diabetic patients not to eat cakes as a separate meal for breakfast, stressing the need to eat them alongside the main meals.

The nutritionist recommends eating only a piece or two of the dessert during the days of Eid al-Fitr.

Hammad indicated that excessive eating of Eid cakes may cause high blood sugar.

The nutrition consultant warned a diabetic patient who suffers from problems with blood pressure, from eating large quantities of cakes, explaining that this could cause high blood pressure.

Hammad advised housewives to reduce the fat and added sugar for Eid cakes when preparing these desserts at home.
